Evil Eye

There are many theories existing that mankind has created a phenomenon known as casting the “evil eye”. It remains unclear what exactly the power of casting an “evil eye” can bring, and how innocent people can prevent themselves from having an evil eye cast upon themselves. In this article will try to summurize what has Kabbalah to say about this issue.

According to Kabbalah, if it’s possible for an individual to prevent damage caused by the evil eye to themselves as well as others, it might be done through one of the following three methods:

· Through action – using his hands and legs

· Through speaking – by speaking slanderously about others or even to curse them.

· Through thought – this will demonstrated later on this page.

First of all it is important to understand how the curse of the evil eye in Kabbalah actually works.

In the moment when an individual utters from his mouth some form of blessing or curse, their words are caught sometimes by angel, possessing the power to transport those words up to heaven.

Kabbalah explains, If the words uttered pertain to a blessing, then this is a fortunate time, as the blessing will be honored and the fruits of the blessing will be fulfilled on earth.

In the event that a curse has been emitted, and details are carried to hell, the scandalous words or wishes will have a negative effect on those who have been singled out in the curse, be it one person, and entire family, tribe or nation. An “evil eye” can affect for good or bad.

Individuals should follow the path of the sages in never”opening their mouth to the Devil.” They should be careful about what they wish themselves and other in a negative manner. Simply because their words may be captured by an angel and return to bring bad fortune to them and to those around them.

It is important to understand that according to the writing on evil eyes in the Kabbalah, it is also possible to bring this curse upon people just through thought. The Zohar explains that when someone looks and thinks upon others in a negative and narrow minded fashion, at the very moment an evil spirit can “catch a trip” on these negative thoughts, causing pain and damage to the person who has been under scrutiny.

This is due to the fact that if, even for a moment, a person has a negative thought, then negative luck, sins and impurity will become a part of that person’s makeup.

This is the reason that sages say that the eyes are panderers of sin, because only through their eyes, can people measure the sins that they wish to partake of. If a person wishes to seek purity, then the first step to achieving this is in keeping his eyes in the right place.

How can an evil eye as mentioned in the Kabbalah actually cause damage?

All the things a world have their channel leading from heaven in which they receive the power of life. Through this same channel, people also are given all the abundance of life.

At certain times however incidents may occur that can interrupt and end even endanger this channel. For instance, a person can endanger their situation in life when they place themselves in certain forms of danger, even life threatening. According to Kabbalah, if and when this situation arises, the person’s entire life account is simultaneously being reviewed in heaven. If by a person’s actions he prevents a miracle occurring, then there is a chance that they have brought the evil eye upon themselves.

This is the very way that the evil eye can be caused by adhering to a life of abundance, bringing a series of troubles during life.

The sages explain this by saying that “no blessing appears in places where the eye cannot see”. Their reasoning was that because every thing outstanding or remarkable that an eye can see is also at risk from the actions of a negative spirit, working under the premise that people who are attracted to pastimes or items of a negative nature, are also negative them.

If the situation is so serious, is this any help Kabbalah can provide or point at?

There are certain remedies that can cure or prevent or even cancel out the influence of the evil eye, according to the Kabbalah.

However in this case actions speak louder than words, and the best way a person can protect themselves from having the evil eye cast upon themselves, is to distance themselves from situations where they will be casting a negative view point over any manner of subject. Also never to look upon another person negatively because of the way they look or how they earn their living That is why the best advice that anyone could be given is that everybody should be looked upon in a positive fashion, and not through jealous or narrow motivations. In the writings of King Solomon (Proverbs) “good eye will be blessed”.

Reincarnation, Other Spiritual Teachings and Science

Reincarnation is a common belief that states that the soul of a deceased person returns in a new life. Kabbalah maintains that a soul does not disappear after death, but instead finds its place in an eternal world or is reincarnated in another human body, newly born. The reason why this happens is because the soul has yet to complete its journey destination in this world.

The newly reincarnated soul will act according to negative or positive actions of a previous life or incarnations. Kabbalah explains, if the actions have been less than positive, the soul will have the opportunity to correct these actions.

Faith according to Kabbalah theory of reincarnation provides certain answers in combating the fear of death. People who believe in reincarnation, take great comfort in the belief that after ones death, their soul returns to the spirit world in order to await for the next good opportunity to be reincarnated in the body of a newly born baby, in order to learn more and complete certain actions. This faith and belief in reincarnation is very popular in many cultures, each slightly different but maintaining a common denominator with those basic beliefs.

Reincarnation in Indian Culture

In Indian culture the belief in reincarnation is very strong. The roots of this belief lie in Buddhism and Hinduism. In those religions, death is regarded as simply as the soul exchanging the body. For this reason, the results bring about a lack of energy balance. Followers of these religions strongly believe that they need to return to repair defects from their previous lives.

This can be evidenced in the structure of a person’s individuality or on their behavioral patterns, after they have gathered considerable negative experiences.

Life is perceived as a long spiritual journey in a material world that cannot be accomplished in one reincarnation. According to this belief, a soul comes back and lives each time according to choice.

The soul can set one of the following criteria to choose when to be reincarnated,

It can choose: time, place, parents to born to according to a “fixing” that it knows he comes to accomplish. (During the first two months of pregnancy, the reincarnated soul has a time to regret – and this is an explanation for natural abortion)

This faith in reincarnation also provides an explanation for the “de ja vu” phenomenon, where someone has a distinct feeling that they have been on the Earth before. As a result of this approach there are treatments available called reincarnation reconstruction. These treatments attempt to heal people from unexplainable problems, considering old traumas that were collected during previous reincarnations.

Reincarnations in Kabbalah

Jewish tradition, especially Kabbalah provides very deep explanation relating to reincarnations. The Zohar and also Golden Age period kabbalist, HaAri, provided a very detailed explanation regarding the purpose of a reincarnation as well as a detailed list of souls that were reincarnated.

According to Kabbalah method, most of the souls to be born in this world are old and not new souls. The reincarnation method gives an explanation regarding reward and punishment and also a theological explanation regarding calamities that can happen to babies, which are not in “punishment” age. The same theories can also apply to tragedies happen to righteous people. An explanation is that tragedy happens as punishment for a sin in a previous life.

In Hassidic tradition (kabbalah “renessanse” period in Eastern Europe of the 17th Century) there are plenty of stories about reincarnation. The Baal Shem Tov (the leading kabbalist of that time) was asked one day by his students the reason why one great Torah scholar was killed.

Baal Shem Tov explained that the same man was a head of the Sanhedrin in period of Zichriah the Prophet. On one occasion when Zichriah predicted trouble in the future, he was slapped on the cheek and was called a dunce and a boor, who had no permission to prophecy. Zichriah was turned then upon by the entire crowd and murdered. After this horrible deed, the same Head of the Sanhedrin was punished to eternal rebirths and be killed every time he was reborn, because has caused to a death of a prophet.

Again we observe the way of reincarnation to explain something was not possible to understand according to common logic, there Kabbalah can give a different point of view.

Kabbalah perceives that a purpose of reincarnation is to repair a soul. That experience is what brings us back to this earth and it is a seed of our ambition to be wise.

On the other hand, fulfillment can cause absence of desire, which means that end of the reincarnation comes about is when a soul is wise enough not to feel a need in to be reborn. According to Kabbalah, a soul’s desire is to preserve a pure consciousness and state of mind without being dependent in physical existence that requires a placing a soul in a body and its limitations. This way soul and body persist in an endless struggle.

Reincarnations in Science

Despite objective experiences as well as tests from psychologists, psychiatrists and scientists, no unequivocal evidence was found to support the theory that reincarnations could occur. Reports of people that could reconstruct in great detail events that happened before their birth and to talk in ancient languages, although fairly common were unable to scientifically proven. Also those who were pronounced clinically dead and came back did not succeed in convincing scientific bodies of the existence of the soul after death.
